Ben & Tayden
Here are some examples of some common harmful ingredients that are likely in some of the products that you use right now.
Sulfates (Sodium Lauryl Sulfate – SLS, Sodium Laureth Sulfate – SLES)
These are what make face wash, shampoos, and body washes soapy and sudsy.
Why it’s harmful: It is a strong detergent that strips the skin’s natural oils, causing dryness and irritation.
After use, people commonly feel their skin is tight and dry because the natural oils have been stripped away.
Alcohols (Denatured Alcohol, SD Alcohol, Isopropyl Alcohol)
Alcohols are commonly used to help dissolve acids in the formulation of the skincare product, which is a double no-no.
Alcohols are common in acne products because they are good at stripping oils to reduce the shine, commonly seen in acne-prone skin. But during the process, the skin barrier is compromised, and the result is more inflammation.
Why it’s harmful: It can dry out and disrupt the skin barrier, leading to irritation and sensitivity.
Parabens (Methylparaben, Propylparaben)
Parabens are cheap, yet effective preservatives that are great at prolonging shelf life.
Why it’s harmful: Suspected endocrine disruptors that interfere with hormone function, which is why these are banned or restricted in Europe, Southeast Asia, and California.
